Luke Wilson and girlfriend Kendall Yates welcome their first baby
The actor and his partner introduced their newborn daughter to guests during a promotional event for his upcoming Netflix comedy series, The Hawk.
Luke Wilson has become a father for the first time. The actor, 54, and his girlfriend, Kendall Yates, 24, quietly welcomed their first child, a daughter, according to multiple reports. The couple, who have kept their relationship largely private since they were first linked in early 2023, did not release a public statement regarding the birth.
The news emerged after the couple appeared at a press event for Wilson’s upcoming Netflix comedy series, The Hawk, on Tuesday, July 7, 2026. The event took place at The Resort at Pelican Hill in Newport Beach, California. Attendees witnessed the couple arriving at the venue shortly after 5:00 pm, with Yates carrying their newborn in a baby carrier. The pair reportedly stayed at the reception for approximately two hours, during which time they introduced their daughter to guests and Wilson’s castmates, including Jimmy Tatro.
Wilson has long expressed a desire to have children. In a 2007 interview, the actor noted that he wanted to start a family, stating, "I definitely want [kids] at some point." As he approached his 50th birthday in 2021, Wilson reflected on the passage of time. "30 didn’t matter to me. 40 didn’t matter to me," he said at the time. "I just steamrolled right through it, but 50. I don’t know if it’s getting to me because I am sore when I wake up in the middle of the night, and I am forgetting the names of people I know." He added that the milestone had left him feeling somewhat "panicky about some stuff," noting that it helped him understand the concept of a midlife crisis.
With this birth, Wilson joins his brothers, Owen and Andrew Wilson, as a parent. Owen, 57, has three children: a son, Robert, with Jade Duell; a son, Finn, with Caroline Lindqvist; and a daughter, Lyla, with Varunie Vongsvirates. Andrew, 61, is also a parent to a son, Joey.
Wilson and Yates have made very few public appearances during their time together. Their first joint appearance at a Hollywood industry event occurred in June 2024 at the premiere after-party for the film Horizon: An American Saga — Chapter 1. Prior to their appearance at Pelican Hill, the couple was most recently photographed in April 2026 while walking in Los Angeles. During that outing, Yates wore an oversized white T-shirt; media reports noted she appeared to display a baby bump, though the couple did not publicly confirm the pregnancy at the time.
The arrival of their daughter follows a busy week for the actor. On July 6, 2026, Wilson was involved in an elevator incident at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures. He was trapped for less than an hour inside an elevator alongside director Wes Anderson and director James L. Brooks, among others. The group was attending a 30th-anniversary screening of the film Bottle Rocket. The Los Angeles Fire Department responded to the scene and assisted in their exit after the elevator became stuck, reportedly due to the weight of the occupants.
Wilson’s new series, The Hawk, in which he stars as the character Golden Fisk alongside Will Ferrell, is scheduled to debut on Netflix on July 16, 2026.
