Spider-Man: Brand New Day Smashes Box Office Record With $360 Million Op…
Spider-Man: Brand New Day has broken box office records with a historic $360 million domestic debut, surpassing Avengers: Endgame.
Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios Celebrate Box Office History as Spider-Man: Brand New Day Claims the Top Domestic Debut
Spider-Man has officially rewritten the box office record books. Following initial weekend estimates, updated figures released on Monday, 3 August 2026, by Sony Pictures showed that Spider-Man: Brand New Day pulled in a domestic debut of $360 million across the United States and Canada. That updated haul pushed the film past the previous domestic opening record holder, Disney's Avengers: Endgame, which debuted with $357 million in 2019 without accounting for inflation.
Earlier studio estimates on Sunday had placed the North American opening at an estimated $355 million, which would have marked the second-largest domestic opening of all time. But updated figures confirmed the new high-water mark, making Brand New Day and Avengers: Endgame the only two movies in history to earn more than $300 million domestically in a single weekend, according to Variety.
The blockbuster success extended far beyond North America. The film launched with an international gross of $572 million from over 73,500 screens, contributing to a global debut totaling $927 million during its first three days in theaters, according to studio estimates cited by FoxSanAntonio (while GeekTyrant cited a global debut totaling $932 million). While that global opening ranks as the second-biggest worldwide debut on record — trailing only Endgame’s global launch — it arrived nearly five years after the previous franchise installment, Spider-Man: No Way Home.
Sony Pictures Motion Picture Group Chairman and CEO Tom Rothman credited the milestone to the creative team.
Rothman also praised the "incomparable Tom Holland," having famously pushed back production schedules to accommodate Holland's work in other projects."Wow! 360 million thank-yous to all the filmmakers, actors, producers, and to my colleagues at Sony, who created such a fantastic film and an exceptional marketing and distribution campaign. Records are made to be broken, but we will take great pride in this one, for as long as we hold it."

Marvel Studios President and producer Kevin Feige also highlighted the global resonance of the release.
Producer Amy Pascal added that the performance reinforces that moviegoers remain hungry for stories that are both spectacular and deeply human."This debut reflects the enduring power of Marvel’s characters, and the connection they continue to have with fans around the world — and, as audiences saw, it sets up exciting things to come."

Destin Daniel Cretton Directs Peter Parker's Next Chapter Amid Competitive Summer Lineup
Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, who previously helmed Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Spider-Man: Brand New Day picks up in the aftermath of No Way Home. Peter Parker (played once more by Tom Holland) lives in total isolation after erasing his identity from public memory. Struggling with strange mutations affecting his powers, Parker attempts to reconnect with former girlfriend MJ, played by Zendaya, and his best friend Ned, played by Jacob Batalon, while protecting New York City from a mysterious new threat. The ensemble cast also features Mark Ruffalo, Florence Pugh, and Sadie Sink.
The film's path to the record books was aided by strong word-of-mouth and robust preview numbers, pulling in $72 million in preview screenings before delivering an opening day of $169.8 million in the U.S. And Canada, besting Avengers: Endgame’s Friday haul, according to studio data cited by GeekTyrant (while FoxSanAntonio noted an opening day of $168 million from 4,487 theaters). Exit polls showed an audience that was predominantly male at roughly 61%, with younger demographics driving the turnout. More than half of ticket buyers were under the age of 25, with individuals aged 18 to 24 making up 36% of the audience and those aged 25 to 34 accounting for 27%, according to PostTrak exit polls.
The opening weekend coincided with strong competition and unusual scheduling. Christopher Nolan’s blockbuster The Odyssey, which also stars Tom Holland and Zendaya, held IMAX screens during the superhero film's debut weekend, with Brand New Day scheduled to begin its own IMAX run the following weekend. The Odyssey slid to second place in its third weekend with $51 million domestically, pushing its total domestic earnings to $395.5 million and its global total to $911.4 million (with AOL noting a global total of approximately $721 million).
The combined box office power of these releases fueled the highest-grossing weekend ever for North American theaters, with top films generating roughly $430 million in combined ticket sales, according to Rentrak data. Industry analysts noted that the strong performance has pushed total domestic ticket sales for the year to $6.19 billion, marking an increase of nearly 15% compared to the same period in the previous year. Paul Dergarabedian, head of marketplace trends for Rentrak, suggested that the momentum could help the summer movie season surpass the $4 billion mark for the first time since the summer of 2023.
