Lauren Bennett, the British singer known for her feature on LMFAO's hit song "Party Rock Anthem", has died at the age of 36. The news was announced by her former band, G.R.L., in a heartfelt statement posted on their official Instagram page on July 6.
According to Kent and Medway Coroner records, Bennett died on May 29 in Meopham, Kent, England. The cause of her death remains unknown, and an inquest into the circumstances of her death is scheduled for October.
Bennett's former bandmates, Emmalyn Estrada, Natasha Slayton, and Paula van Oppen, expressed their sadness and grief in the statement, saying that their "hearts are broken" and that they "cannot begin to express how much she meant to us". They also praised Bennett's "beautiful spirit" and said that she will be "deeply missed and forever loved".
Bennett's father, Robert Bennett, also paid tribute to his late daughter in an Instagram post, describing her as an "incredible person and artist" who was "creative, talented, funny, and as humble as she was beautiful". He also revealed that Bennett had experienced a severe reaction to a prescribed medication months before her death and that the family had "no suspicions regarding the circumstances of her death", but were disappointed with the treatment she received from medical professionals and NHS services.
Bennett was born on June 24, 1989, in Meopham, England, and began her music career at a young age. She formed the Paradiso Girls in 2007 and later joined G.R.L. In 2014. She was also a solo artist and collaborated with prominent musicians such as CeeLo Green, will.i.am, and Pitbull.
One of Bennett's most notable collaborations was with LMFAO on their 2011 hit song "Party Rock Anthem", which spent six weeks at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The song's music video has over 2.5 billion views on YouTube, and it has been named the fifth most successful song of all time by Billboard.
Bennett also released music with G.R.L., including the popular singles "Vacation", "Wild Wild Love", and "Ugly Heart".
